Sumgait is a pureblood Akhal Teke gelding born in 2002 at Cascade Gold Akhal Tekes in Washington. .  He is light bay with three white sox and a lovely blaze.  His long ears, angular face, narrow body, and dry legs are unmistakable Akhal Teke traits.  Sumgait belongs to the Ak Sakal line.  He has extraordinary fluid movements and incredible suspension.  Sumgait’s conditioning for the sport of endurance began in 2009.  In 2010, he participated in one competition in September.  During the summer of 2011, Sumgait participated in three endurance races.  Our strategy was to enter only the limited distance rides (i.e, 25 miles) and teach him pace.  He completed all the races with excellent metabolic parameters.  We received compliments from the veterinarians regarding Sumgait’s powerful, ground-covering movements on several occasions. He proved to be a very competitive horse, willing yet sensible.  We look forward to next season or to find someone who would enjoy furthering his athletic capabilities in the sport of endurance.
